Mt Williamson Motel and Basecamp has non-smoking cabins and rooms with views of the Eastern Sierra. Dining at Mt. Williamson
A fresh, hot breakfast is included daily during hiking season, from Father's Day weekend through the end of September, with vegan and gluten-free options available upon request. Breakfast is not available in the fall/winter. Independence has a restaurant, a deli, a taco truck, an ice cream shop and a French restaurant. The gas stations in town sell beer and snacks.
Things to Do
Guests can hike and cycle in and around Independence. The Alabama Hills, 18 miles south, feature rock formations like the Mobius and Lathe arches. Kearsarge Pass, a 13-mile drive to the Onion Valley trailhead, offers views of the John Muir Wilderness and the Owens Valley. Mt. Whitney is 28 miles away. Death Valley National Park is about 73 miles away. Yosemite National Park is located over 3 hours north of Independence.

Mt Williamson Motel and Basecamp is located on Highway 395, between the Sierra Nevada and Inyo Mountain ranges. It is halfway between Death Valley and Yosemite. The Eastern California Museum is 0.5 km away. Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery is 6 km away.
Services Available
The motel caters to backpackers with services like a shuttle to and from the nearby Onion Valley trailhead for overnight guests. A 2:30 PM shuttle back to the trailhead is available. Resupply services are offered, with packages available for one to four hikers. The motel offers laundry for overnight guests only, luggage storage, and bear canister rentals. There are three dog-friendly rooms available for an extra charge per night. Extra parking is available for an additional fee per day.
