Rooms and Suites
Freehand Los Angeles, designed by Roman and Williams, offers a range of rooms: suites, premium hotel rooms, and shared accommodations. Rooms include comfortable bedding, custom art by Bard College students and alumni, digital radios, 43-inch TVs, desks, seating areas, and bottled water. Instead of a minibar, a hanging basket of snacks is provided. The Two Bedroom Loft Suite has Downtown LA views and spans 950 ft² with a king bed and quad room. Deluxe King Corner Studios provide 480 ft² with a king bed, studio apartment layouts, and large windows. Premium King Skyline View rooms offer skyline views, hand-woven textiles, local art, a Bluetooth sound system, and Argan bathroom toiletries. Eight-bed and six-bed rooms feature custom cedar bunk beds and en suite bathrooms. Private female quad rooms accommodate four guests with custom cedar bunk beds. Some rooms offer 43" LED HDTVs and work desks.
Onsite Dining
Freehand Los Angeles features multiple dining options. The Exchange offers Israeli cuisine, utilizing local ingredients, fresh fish, shellfish, and meats. The restaurant's menu explores the flavors of urban LA through an Israeli lens. Cafe Integral serves Nicaraguan coffees, teas, and fresh juices, along with breakfast options made with seasonal ingredients. Broken Shaker, located on the rooftop pool deck, serves handcrafted cocktails and small bites. Rudolph's Bar & Tea, in the lobby, offers tea-infused cocktails and light bites. Welcome to The Great Gatsby Party(R) returns perfectly timed with the centennial of the Roaring Twenties.
Leisure and Activities
The hotel provides a rooftop swimming pool overlooking Downtown LA. A fitness facility is available. Cultural events are programmed. Guests can visit Flowerboy, an on-site boutique with hip souvenirs from Venice Beach. The Museum of Contemporary Art is nearby. The hotel is the go-to spot for those wanting to recreate a modern-day Slim Aarons pool scene.
Location and Access
Freehand Los Angeles is in Downtown LA, within walking distance of landmarks. It is 0.5 miles from L. A. Live, 0.6 miles from the Peacock Theater (formerly Microsoft Theater) and Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center), 0.8 miles from the Museum of Contemporary Art, and 1.5 miles from Union Station. The hotel is 10 minutes' walk from 7th Street/Metro Center. Olvera Street (2 km), LA Fashion District (0.5 km), Walt Disney Concert Hall (2 km), Dodger Stadium (4 km), Los Angeles Convention Center (2 km), STAPLES Center (1 km), Bradbury Building (1 km), and James Oviatt Building (0.5 km) are also close.
Hotel Services
Freehand Los Angeles includes valet parking for $59.40 per night (including tax). The resort fee is $26 for private rooms and $7 for shared beds (plus tax) per day, covering high-speed Wi-Fi and rooftop priority at Broken Shaker. Valet parking is available 24-hours. The hotel is dog-friendly, with a one-time fee of $75 plus tax per stay for dogs under 75 lbs (private rooms only, one dog per room). The hotel provides multilingual staff, daily housekeeping and Wi-Fi.
“This property strikes me as aiming at a cultivated community vibe, and the award-winning rooftop bar certainly helps set that tone, as does the unusual and acclaimed Israeli cuisine. I think the historical setting in the Commercial Exchange building adds a distinctive touch. It seems a solid option, especially for social travelers looking for something beyond the ordinary.”
