The Golden Gate Hotel, built in 1913 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places, provides accommodations suitable for various travelers. Premium Classic rooms face the back of the hotel and include a queen-sized bed, bay windows, a seating area, a private bathroom, and a claw-foot tub. European Style rooms, ideal for solo travelers or couples, feature full-sized beds, pedestal sinks, private showers, and plush robes, with a shared full bathroom down the hall. Basic rooms, suited for budget travelers, offer either a full-sized bed or two twin-sized beds, a plush robe, and a personal sink, with a shared bathroom located down the hall. Room 407 has a queen-sized bed, a wood wardrobe, an antique vanity, and a vintage-style bathroom with a 'pillbox' toilet and a private walk-in shower. Room 507 includes one full-size bed plus one single bed, accommodating up to three adults, with a shared bathroom down the hall with Room 506. There are also two rooms with an interconnecting door: Room 306 has a queen bed and a private bathroom, and Room 305 has two twin beds, sharing Room 306's bathroom.
Dining and Treats
Guests at the Golden Gate Hotel enjoy complimentary baked goods served daily in the front parlor on the main floor from 8:00 am until 10:30 am. A custom blended Breakfast at Tiffany's loose-leaf tea, a Leland Tea Company take on the classic English Breakfast tea, is available, as well as Nighthawks' Royal Decaf, a blend of light and dark roasts grown in Mexico and naturally decaffeinated using the water process method. Coffee is a Mocha Java medium roast, blended from washed Ethiopian Sidama and wet-processed Indonesian beans. Orange juice and warm croissants from local bakery Bakers of Paris are also provided. Guests may also enjoy a glass of wine and breakfast buffet at Jeanne D'arc, located at our sister property, Cornell Hotel.
Location Highlights
Located in Downtown San Francisco, the Golden Gate Hotel is up the hill from Union Square, between Nob Hill and a few blocks from Chinatown. It is steps from the Powell/Mason & Powell/Hyde cable-car stop. The hotel is within walking distance of Moscone Center, the largest convention center in San Francisco, and a five-minute walk from Union Square. Chinatown is two blocks west of the South Gate. Nearby landmarks include the Contemporary Jewish Museum (1 km), Exploratorium (2 km), Chinatown (1 km), Asian Art Museum (2 km), Pier 39 (2 km), Alcatraz Island (4 km), and the Ferry Building (2 km).
Hotel Services
The Golden Gate Hotel provides a unique, homey, and affordable experience. The lobby is open every day from 7 am to 11 pm. The hotel has an iron-grilled bird-cage elevator. Our housekeeping staff will enter daily for stay over guests (more than one night) to freshen bathrooms, empty trash cans and make the bed. An amenity fee of $20/night will be applied to each room and includes high-speed Wi-Fi access and access to our water station. Safe flame-free candles are available at the front desk. The hotel is near splendid natural areas, including Point Reyes National Seashore and San Pablo Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
Event Space
The Jeanne D'arc Event Space is located at our sister property, Cornell Hotel de France. With a capacity of up to 80 guests, the space retains its medieval-inspired charm, blending European features with modern amenities. It includes a fully equipped kitchen and the flexibility to bring your own catering. Catering services include La Cocina, which offers multiple small business caterers from around the world, and Bouche, which is a French restaurant that offers catering on demand.
